About Us

One Contractor for the Complete Drill and Blast Scope

Successful blasting depends on every part of the operation working together. A well-designed blast can still underperform when holes are incorrectly positioned, drilled to inconsistent depths or allowed to deviate from the intended alignment.

QDBS provides an integrated drilling and blasting service so that the drilling programme, blast requirements, explosives coordination and field execution remain aligned.

Our full drill and blast capability can include:

Project and site-condition review
Blast-design coordination
Drill-pattern review and field set-out
Production blast-hole drilling
Controlled and perimeter drilling
Hole-depth and drilling-quality checks
Explosives logistics coordination
Charging, stemming and blast preparation
Blast clearance and initiation
Quality, safety and compliance documentation
Post-blast inspection and reporting

This approach gives clients one contractor responsible for coordinating the complete drill and blast cycle rather than managing disconnected drilling and blasting teams.

Drilling and Blasting Across Key Industries

Queensland Drilling & Blasting Services supports projects where accurate drilling, controlled rock breakage and dependable field execution are critical to the wider construction or production programme.

Civil Construction

We provide drilling and blasting for road cuttings, rail corridors, subdivisions, basements, trenches, bulk excavation and major civil infrastructure.

Civil projects commonly involve nearby structures, underground services, traffic movements, staged excavation and strict programme requirements. Our crews coordinate drilling accuracy, blast preparation and site controls around the specific constraints of each project.

Quarry Production

QDBS supports operating quarries with production drilling and complete drill and blast services for new benches, quarry extensions and recurring production programmes.

Consistent hole placement, depth and alignment help maintain predictable fragmentation, reduce unexpected oversize and support efficient loading, hauling, crushing and screening operations.

Mining and Rehabilitation

Our crews provide drilling and blasting support for surface mining, mine infrastructure and rehabilitation projects.

These environments require reliable equipment, disciplined safety systems and accurate reporting. Where ground conditions vary across the work area, drilling information and field observations are communicated so the blast requirements can be reviewed before loading and initiation.

Renewable Energy

QDBS supports wind farms, solar farms, transmission corridors, access roads and associated renewable-energy infrastructure.

These projects may involve high drilling volumes, multiple work fronts, remote locations and demanding construction schedules. Our scalable drill fleet and logistics capability allow us to support single-rig and multi-rig programmes across regional and remote sites.

Infrastructure

We provide drilling and blasting for major infrastructure projects where excavation profiles, staging, compliance and coordination with other contractors are critical.

Our approach focuses on accurate drilling, clear project communication, reliable mobilisation and documentation that supports the wider construction programme.

Subdivisions and Urban Excavation

Subdivision and urban rock excavation often takes place near neighbouring properties, services, roads and future building platforms.

QDBS considers access, project staging, excavation limits and surrounding constraints when coordinating the drilling and blasting scope.

Our Drill Rigs & Machines

QDBS operates multiple Epiroc SmartROC surface drill rigs, including the SmartROC T35, T40 and T45 platforms.

The rig selected for each project depends on factors including:

Required hole diameter
Hole depth
Bench geometry
Ground conditions
Site access
Production requirements
Drilling method
Mobilisation constraints

SmartROC rig-control systems support consistent drilling parameters and provide operators with the information required to maintain drilling accuracy across changing conditions.

All rigs are supported by preventative maintenance, daily inspections, defect reporting and QDBS’s in-house maintenance capability. The current QDBS website also states that MEX is used for pre-start and defect reporting and that maintenance support includes service vehicles, hose fabrication, drifter rebuilding and scheduled servicing.

Precision drilling across multiple environments

Our SmartROC T35, T40, and T45 drill rigs provide consistent drilling performance across civil construction, quarry production, mining rehabilitation, and renewable energy projects. Their advanced control systems ensure accurate collar positioning, controlled penetration rates, and consistent hole depth. Protecting blast design integrity and improving overall excavation outcomes.

Intelligent rig control and hole accuracy

SmartROC drill rigs use advanced rig control systems to monitor drilling parameters in real time, reducing operator variability and improving hole alignment and consistency. This improves fragmentation outcomes, reduces oversize material, and supports safer and more efficient blasting operations.

Scalable fleet for small and large programmes

With multiple SmartROC rigs available, we can deploy single or multi-rig drilling operations depending on project size and programme requirements. This allows us to maintain production schedules, support simultaneous project sites, and scale drilling output to meet client timelines without compromising drilling quality.

Maintained for reliability and operational uptime

All drill rigs are supported by structured preventative maintenance systems, daily inspections, and dedicated fleet management. This ensures equipment remains operational, reliable, and ready for deployment. Reducing downtime and ensuring consistent delivery across all project environments.

Our Drill and Blast Process

Project Review and Scoping
We review the project location, drawings, excavation requirements, programme, ground information, site access and surrounding constraints.
Planning and Blast-Design Coordination
The drilling method, equipment, pattern requirements and field sequence are coordinated with the approved blast requirements and intended excavation outcome.
Mobilisation and Site Preparation
The required drill rigs, personnel and supporting equipment are mobilised in accordance with the agreed site programme and site-access requirements.
Holes are drilled to the specified location, diameter, angle and depth. Ground conditions and drilling variations are recorded and communicated throughout the programme.
Drilling Quality Assurance
Completed holes are reviewed against the project requirements. Where required, depth, alignment or deviation verification can be incorporated before charging.
Charging and Blast Preparation
Explosives coordination, charging, stemming, tie-in and exclusion-zone requirements are managed in accordance with the approved blast arrangements.
Blast Execution
The blast is initiated by authorised personnel following the required clearance, communication and safety procedures.
Post-Blast Inspection and Reporting
The blast result is reviewed and the required project documentation is completed. Findings can be incorporated into subsequent blasts within ongoing production programmes.

Our crews are experienced in working across metropolitan, regional and remote environments. We mobilise efficiently with the equipment, safety systems and operational planning needed to support projects across multiple states.

Whether working on infrastructure corridors, quarry sites or remote developments, we bring the same disciplined approach to drilling accuracy and blasting execution.

Blast Technology, Quality Assurance and Reporting

Reliable blast performance depends on accurate information at every stage, from the initial site assessment through to drilling verification, charging and post-blast reporting.

Depending on the project requirements, QDBS can incorporate:

Drone surveying of blast faces and bench areas
Blast-design coordination using ShotPlus
Borehole alignment and depth verification using Carlson Boretrak
Digital blast information and reporting through BlastIQ
Non-electric and electronic initiation systems
Drilling plans and completed-hole information
Blast proposals and pre-blast inspections
Post-blast assessment and reporting

These systems help connect the approved blast requirements with the conditions encountered in the field. Where variations are identified, the relevant information can be communicated before the blast is loaded and initiated.

For technically complex or vibration-sensitive projects, QDBS can also coordinate specialist blast-engineering input.
